Food safety is essential when preparing and serving meals. All volunteers involved in food preparation or serving must follow basic hygiene practices.

Personal Hygiene

Volunteers must:

• Wash hands regularly

• Keep hands clean when handling food

• Tie back long hair where appropriate

Volunteers should avoid touching food unnecessarily.

Illness

Volunteers must not participate in food preparation or serving if they are experiencing symptoms of illness such as:

• Vomiting

• Diarrhoea

• Fever

If a volunteer becomes unwell, they should inform the Service Lead.

Food Preparation

Food should be prepared and handled carefully to avoid contamination.

Volunteers should:

• Keep preparation areas clean

• Use clean utensils and equipment

• Follow instructions provided by the food preparation lead

Allergen Awareness

Some guests may have food allergies.

Volunteers should not guess ingredients or provide uncertain information about food contents. If unsure, refer questions to the Service Lead.
